This old dog is Duchess. She's 11. I'm Larry. I'm 66. That's pretty old too. We are as close to homeless as you can be without living under a bridge due to circumstances beyond our control.
Thankfully we have a very good friend who is allowing us to live in his garage in Texas.
Since we can't stay here forever, We've decided to take a nice adventure and go back to Colorado from whence we came and spend the summer camping. There are many places we've been and many we never have and are looking forward to. We will spend fourteen days here and fourteen days there.

This is our truck. We call it old blue.
Old blue is a 2002 Ford F-150 pickup that we
bought used from a friend of a friend.
The camper shell came from Craigslist for an incredibly low price. I put down a carpet and built a shelf bed in the back so we can sleep in there if necessary.

We have an eight person tent and a three person tent, several tarps, a nice old Coleman stove, a small propane grill, two backpacking stoves, a water purifier and three five gallon water containers.






We also have a little buddy propane heater and two canisters of propane, a small generator and a small electric heater.
After many years of camping I have lots of assorted cookware and camp utensils so I believe we're pretty much covered.
I've just begun stocking up on dog food and canned human food and pastas and rice and beans that are easily cooked. The plan is to have at least one month's worth of food when we leave.
Our only income source is social security but the truck is paid for and after quite a bit of repairs in decent condition with brand new tires. We have some credit card debt and can't afford to rent any place so we have to live frugally and have decided living in the truck is our only option.

Several people have told me I should start a GoFundMe account. I don't like to beg though but maybe if I do, I can pay off my debts and be able to afford a roof over our heads. So I have created this account.

We're planning on leaving Texas for the four corners area of Colorado the last week of March if all goes well and the weather cooperates up there.

We have no actual destination but I have topo maps of all of the national forest and BLM areas where we will be camping.

Almost Happy birthday for me

I guess my last blog update was when we were at El Morro several weeks ago. Since then we've been to Cottonwood Canyon State Park for one night on our way from El Morro up to visit some people on Mount Blanca with a stop in Albuquerque for dog food and a stop in Santa Fe for people food. We only stayed on Mt Blanca two days because it was windy and there was nothing but cactus and rocks around and Duchess didn't like that. Gila cliff dwellings, hot springs and more

It's been a while since my last update because there's been very limited cell service and no data. Someone at Cherry Creek Campground told me about the Gila hot springs Campground, where you can camp for $8 a night and have 24 hour access to 3 really nice soaking pools. So on Friday the 28th of April we went there and arranged to stay four nights. I could have stayed forever. It was very quiet not crowded and dogs were allowed to roam free as long as they got along with each other which Duchess did an excellent job of. The hike up to the cliff dwellings was amazing. It's a one mile loop with quite an elevation gain but you can actually walk through the Gila cliff dwellings. The Hot Springs Campground is a stopping point on the Continental Divide Trail where hikers can spend the night, soak, meet other hikers, exchange food and other items and just generally relax. Somewhere in the San Juan National Forest

Today is Tuesday the 10th of April 2018. We have found a beautiful wilderness camping area in the San Juan National Forest near Mancos, Colorado where we actually have good cell phone service. We arrived here Sunday afternoon after journeying from the Santa Fe National Forest where we camped for several nights. After seeing the welcome to colorful Colorado sign I could think of nothing but Orvis Hot Springs. This is one of my favorite places in the world. So rather than hang around on the Front Range or in the middle range I headed directly over to Orvis and arrived about four o'clock in the afternoon on Friday. They have a camping area so I arranged to spend the night set up my tent took Duchess for a walk and went in to soak in the most wonderful lithium filled Waters I've ever experienced. Later while cooking dinner in their microwave in the kitchen a husband and wife came in and the woman said "You look just like Jeff Bridges." That was a new one to me. A
