Snow! Oh No. Part 2

We had spotty cell connection so I perused a map as well as google maps and found El Morro National Monument near Grants New Mexico, a no fee campground called Head of the Ditch National Forest campground  unimproved except for fire pits and rustic picnic tables and pit toilets, another no fee National Forest campground called McGaffey Campground situated in an old ghost town also near Grants New Mexico.
So we left Valley of Fire on Wednesday the 18th of April at seven thirty in the morning and arrived at head of the ditch campground around three o'clock.
We passed two occupied campsites going in towards what looked like the end of the road a quarter mile away with several nice campsites and then the road turned left and there was a water crossing across the mighty San Francisco River.
We eased across, came up a hill and around the corner and there was a perfect campsite with two fire pits on either side of a long rustic picnic table and room for many people to camp.

I don't expect to see many people because it's still a little cold here at night but there is no snow.
I set up both tents, got the bedding situated, walked around exploring for a while with Duchess, made a meal of potatoes, cheese and eggs and built a nice little fire to sit beside as the sun set.
Our first morning here the sun hit the ten at seven forty five. It was cold enough that there was a film of ice on Duchess' water bowl. We sat in the sun for a while and then after coffee and cereal for breakfast we closed up the camp and got in the truck and drove the seven miles to the Arizona border where we found limited cell service and let a few people know where we were going to be for a while.
Then it was back to the campsite where I made a river refrigeration unit for eggs and protein drinks.

Usually I put beer in rivers to keep it cold but I have no beer and haven't had any for over two weeks.
But I did break down and buy a small bottle of Evan Williams cheap whiskey which tasted quite nice by the fire last night.
Duchess of course kicked her covers off numerous times during the night so I had to rearrange and will now sleep on the floor alongside her instead of on the cot and order to keep her covered.
